In our household Laundry is a must every single day. One load a day keeps the laundry away. We are a family of six and I like to be prepared just in case we are out of our favorite Rustic Strength Laundry detergent; would I know a simple recipe to keep our clothes clean? As I teach my children, I am reminded to always consider myself as a student as well, so that I can continue to have a mindset to learn. This DIY laundry detergent is a simple way to keep clothes clean and fresh.
2 cups Soap flakes: I prepare my own soap flakes by using Dr. Bronners castile bar soap and using my food processor to shred the bar into pieces. You can also purchase the soap flakes that are already prepared to use.
1 cup Washing soda: There are many brands, but I have used this one and it works well. This product is used to brighten the clothes and remove stains.
1 cup Borax: Eliminates odors, brightens clothes, softens hard water.
Optional: 4 drops essential oil
Use 2-3 tablespoons of this detergent per load depending on the size of load and how soiled the clothes are. I make a large batch of this detergent since we are a bigger family.
Fabric Softener: 1-2 tablespoons of 30-45% vinegar. We have hard water, so the vinegar combined with the other products really helps to remove odor and stains.
