Introduction

Sourdough is very versatile. Many love preparing sourdough bread, but you can use your sourdough starter to make many dishes. From sweet to savory sourdough has a way of increasing the flavor and the nutrients in your meal. The dishes below are ones that my family has thoroughly enjoyed and ones that we continue to make. The more I have baked with sourdough, I see that the options are endless with what you can prepare. The hope is that these pictures would inspire you to try something new with your starter and enjoy the beautiful creations you can prepare for your family.


1. Sourdough bread

Serve with:
Soup, pasta dishes, avocado toast, hummus toast, vegetables or just eat it plain with butter.

2. Sourdough Hamburger Buns


We rarely prepare burgers but as we headed to the beach this summer, we thought this would be a great time to enjoy one. No store-bought bread here! If we are going to make a burger let’s, make the bread as well. I got this recipe from one of the sourdough queens online, Farmhouse on boone. Lisa, the creator of Farmhouse on Boone has many recipes that have inspired me to try something different that always turns out delicious.

These buns are great for burgers, sandwiches to go into your children’s lunch box, avocado/hummus toast, and more.


3. Sourdough Pancakes

With a few repeatable recipes and some flexible ingredients, you can feed your family, keep your sanity, and maybe even enjoy it along the way.

Remember: frozen veggies, paper plates, and shortcuts are part of a well-fed, well-loved home.

DIY Laundry detergent

DIY Laundry Detergent In our household Laundry is a must every single day. One load a day keeps the laundry away. We are a family of six and I like to be prepared just in case we are out of our favorite Rustic Strength Laundry detergent; would I know a simple recipe to keep our clothes clean? As I teach my children, I am reminded to always consider myself as a student as well, so that I can continue to have a mindset to learn. This DIY laundry detergent is a simple way to keep clothes clean and fresh.   2 cups Soap flakes: I prepare my own soap flakes by using Dr. Bronners castile bar soap and using my food processor to shred the bar into pieces. You can also purchase the soap flakes that are already prepared to use. 1 cup Washing soda: There are many brands, but I have used this one and it works well. This product is used to brighten the clothes and remove stains. 1 cup Borax: Eliminates odors, brightens clothes, softens hard water.  Optional: 4 drops essential oil Use 2-3 tablespoons of this detergent per load depending on the size of load and how soiled the clothes are. I make a large batch of this detergent since we are a bigger family. Fabric Softener: 1-2 tablespoons of 30-45% vinegar. We have hard water, so the vinegar combined with the other products really helps to remove odor and stains.
